Religious Education (RE) at Red Barn Community Primary School
At Red Barn, we follow the Living Difference IV programme, helping pupils explore questions about life, faith, and values while developing respect and understanding for different beliefs.
Legal Entitlement:
· Every pupil has a legal right to RE as part of a broad and balanced curriculum.
· All maintained schools must provide RE and daily collective worship while promoting pupils’ spiritual, moral, and cultural development.
· The RE curriculum is locally determined by a syllabus recommended by the Standing Advisory Committee for RE (SACRE) and adopted by the local authority.
· Red Barn, as a maintained school without a religious character, follows this locally agreed syllabus.
· Collective worship is broadly Christian in character but not distinctive of any particular denomination.
What Pupils Learn:
· Christianity, other world religions, and humanist perspectives.
· Key themes such as identity, community, beliefs, and values.
· Reflection, discussion, and personal responses in age-appropriate ways.
Progression from Year R to Year 6:
· Reception: Explore stories, celebrations, and key figures from different faiths.
· Years 1–2: Learn core beliefs and practices; express ideas through discussion and creative activities.
· Years 3–4: Explore meaning, purpose, and values; compare beliefs across religions.
· Years 5–6: Reflect on complex questions; articulate informed responses; develop understanding of diversity and respect.
Assessment:
· Progress is monitored through discussion, reflection, written work, and observations.
· Focus on understanding, personal responses, and respect for different beliefs.
Right to Withdraw:
· Parents may request their child be withdrawn from all or part of RE and/or collective worship.
· No reason needs to be given. Requests remain in place unless withdrawn by the parent.
· Please contact the school office for more information or to make a withdrawal request.
