The school has 8 large airy classrooms which are well resourced to meet the requirements of the National Curriculum. There is a well-stocked library and children are trained to use the books sensibly and independently. The library area also includes tables where children can work independently or in small guided groups. We also have a large multi-purpose hall, drama studio, community room, Headteacher’s office, School Office, medical room, staff room, meeting room, kitchen, various storerooms, cloaks and toilet facilities/disabled toilet.
The school has invested heavily into ICT and has a computer suite and a bank of laptops, iPads and wireless network. Every classroom has an interactive whiteboard and class desktop or laptop computer. We have a range of software to support the curriculum and are connected to the Hampshire-provided Internet which gives us safe access to a wide range of educational websites.
Our school is set in extensive, attractive grounds with woodland areas. We have a pond which includes covered seating, resources for pond dipping and allotment beds where the children grow vegetables. We value outdoor learning and our grounds are used for all areas of the curriculum throughout the year. Children are encouraged to leave wellington boots at school. Key Stage One children also have waterproof suits provided by the school.
There are two playgrounds, quiet areas with seating, an outdoor stage and a ‘play-trail’ to climb on. We provide a variety of playground equipment for the children to use at break-times as well as an outdoor library.
Many of the improvements that have been put in place have been achieved with a great deal of help from funding from the ‘Friends of Red Barn'. This is a voluntary group of parents and staff who put on events such as discos, film nights and fairs. New volunteers are always welcome. If you feel able to get involved, please contact the school office.
