Year 4 – Mrs Haden-Brown, Mrs Herridge, Miss Bishop, Mrs Mellish-Smith & Mrs Tamblyn

Gull carrying litterDid you know that over 70,000 pets and wild animals are hurt in Britain every year because of litter?

Model making a speechThe Hook for our Animal Experts topic is a ‘Trash Mob’ where, to improve the school environment for our wildlife, we will complete a litter pick. After analysing the litter we collect, we will make posters and information leaflets to persuade the local community to reduce, reuse and recycle. In Literacy, we are also writing speeches, in the style of Sir David Attenborough and Greta Thunberg to deliver at our end goal. Music sees us studying ‘Earth’ by Hans Zimmer. We will compose our own response to our planet using tuned and untuned percussion instruments and voice.

In History, our studies will go back as we explore The Viking and Anglo-Saxon struggle for the Kingdom of England. We will learn about Viking vessels, from little fishing boats to ferries and wide cargo boats – and of course their iconic longboats.

As part of our Geographic skills we will be studying different biomes and the animals that habituate them.

After deepening our knowledge about how to keep ourselves safe in the online world in Computer Science, we will use Scratch to build a Viking game using count-controlled loops.

In Art we will study the well-known styles of Andy Warhol and Roy Lichtenstein before producing a block-based print of ourselves.

P.E will be on outside on Wednesdays and inside on Thursdays.

Please ensure your child comes to school in the correct P.E kit:

  • White T-shirt (without buttons please)
  • Leggings or black or red athletics shorts (shorts must be worn for gymnastics)
  • Plain tracksuit (required for outdoor P.E. when the weather is colder)
  • Trainers for outside

For safety, long hair should be tied back and earrings removed please.

Home Learning, consisting of spelling and times table practise, will be handed out and collected in on Mondays.
